Clinical psychology
- John O'Dea
Clinical psychology & research psychology are very different fields from each other.
Research psychology is an exciting scientific field of study very much at the forefront of the biological sciences just now, being part of the field of neurobiology. In contrast clinical psychology is quite variable, its credibility critically depending on the background of the individual practitioner. Psychologists seem as varied in quality & belief systems as religious sects & while some are wonderfully indispensable, others know little or nothing about brain or mind function. I know some wonderful clinical psychologists who keep up to date on the latest findings in neurobiology including neuroplasticity, & neuroimaging & who benefit their patients greatly. Intelligent clinical psychologists try diligently to protect their patients from over-medication, an objective which hormone therapy often helps to attain.
