Psychopharmacology
- by John O'Dea
Psychopharmacologists are those who are or who consider themselves particular experts in the field of psychoactive drug therapy.
Psychopharmacologists are expert in the drugs that alter mind, and therefore often tend to have more of a scientific, neurobiologic knowledge base than those whose emphasis is talking therapy using psychodynamic theory. In my experience they often over-medicate people or medicate those who don't really need to be medicated. Hormonal modulation is a potential boon to flexible psychopharmacologists because it makes drug therapy more light-handed while reducing treatment resistance & easing their professional burden.
