Psychosis/schizophrenia
- by John O'Dea
Estrogen makes women saner, less belligerent & destructive than men, & it protects then in a natural way against psychosis, including schizophrenia, as well as ADHD, autism and OCD.
Psychosis including schizophrenia & schizo-affective disorder are more frequently seen in males and in those women who produce excessive androgen levels such as those with polycystic ovary disease. The psychoses involve disordered thoughts & negative symptoms such as social & intellectual deficits. Excesses of cortisol & surges of androgens as well as estradiol deficits may be key, when they impact upon the circuits of genetically vulnerable people. In a sense psychosis isn't a psychiatric disorder at all, its a nano-neurological disorder involving an excess of neurotoxic factors such as cortisol & glutamate, leading to a neurodegenerative disease with cellular loss. Drugs that re-calibrate cortisol secretion and increase estrogen may help considerably. Several of my schizophrenic transsexual patients have responded dramatically & cumulatively to estradiol therapy, but this kind of result depends on administering estradiol with extreme precision. Erratically delivered estradiol doesn't work like this.
